PURPOSE 1. To archive a fun 1960's vintage toy kit 2. To commemorate the fun of countless hours I had in my childhood provided by the best parents a child could ever have! 3. To reminisce with others of similar interest (nostalgia factor). 4. To provide a common link for those who may be interested in this Topper Toy. I have a current interest level greater than time or expertise in making this site more interactive, but who knows -- you may be inspired to make a better site! (if you do, please let me know). I have not found a similar site on the web, so ...had to start somewhere. |

| In the process of developing this page, I learned indirectly from an Ebay seller about "Son of Garloo," a wind-up toy from the early 1960's. You can find Great Garloo for sale on Ebay and occasionally a "Son of Garloo." Son of Garloo usually sells for over $125.00! Vac-u-Forms and Thingmaker/Creepy Crawlers dated from about the same time frame. If you put these two toys together, you have the basic idea for the Motorized Monster-Maker kits! They were sold in 1969 & 1970. No new kits were manufactured after 1971 by Topper Toys. You purchased a starter set which included the Ogre kit and the oven. You had to purchase the other mold kits separately. If you didn't get enough of Ogre in the starter set, he had a mold kit too. If you used up your 3 monsters and wanted more, you could buy an accessory kit, which did not include the mold (or oven). I am not aware of any lawsuit for 'copy-cat' violations re: the other toys mentioned above, which predated the beloved Topper answer to which this site is dedicated. It seems Topper did a lot of this--if you are interested, please check out the history page. So what is so great about this toy to warrant its own web site, since I am not a die-hard monstermaniac? Well, as the BOX TOP ITSELF READS: "YOU MAKE THEM" (not entirely factory-made, like Son of Garloo was, thus they are like Creepy Crawlers) and... "THEY DO THINGS" (unlike Creepy Crawlers, which were not motorized-but if planted in the right spot, Creepy Crawlers could admittedly "motorize" your mother or sister to warp speed instantly. |
